July 2020 Accolades

Michael Tubbs (2008), Mayor of Stockton, CA, is the subject of a new HBO documentary “Stockton on My Mind”, airing July 28, 2020. Directed by Emmy-winner Marc Levin, the film follows Michael on his mission to “upset the set-up,” as he works to improve his hometown by launching bold social and economic policies that will support positive civic action.

2003 Scholars LaToya Franklyn and Albert Lawrence were part of a national ad campaign that Coca-Cola ran around the 4th of July holidays.
Marissa Sumathipala (2018) was selected as a Glamour Magazine College Woman of the Year, an award given to the top 10 most accomplished young female changemakers and innovators.
Jonathan Quarles (2000) was named Beautiful Machine Magazine’s Man of the Year.
Michaella Gallina (2006) was named to the National Investor Relations Institute’s “40 Under 40” class.
Lillian Singh (2000), Vice President of Programs and Racial Wealth Equity at Prosperity Now, was named a 2020 American Express NGen Fellow for her work in racial economic equity.
Quinn Rallins (2004) was selected for the Leadership Greater Chicago Class of 2021. As he said on his Facebook page, he is “excited to build solidarity with others who are reflecting and re-imagining what justice, equity, and opportunity looks like — from housing to health care, in our communities.”
Jennifer Halsey Evans (1990) was elected chair of the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Fund (MCSF) Board of Directors.
