September 2020 Accolades

Jonathan Quarles (2000) recently finished his first book, Making Dollars While Making Change, a half-memoir, half-playbook for using business as a platform for social impact. It is available for pre-order here.

“The book devotes a lot of space to the meaning of purpose-driven leadership, a core value of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, which had a big impact on my life,” he said.

Jonathan was also named to Crain’s Detroit Business’s 40 Under 40 list.
Hodari PT Brown (2003) was selected as a 2020 Outstanding Young Michigander and one of ten Outstanding Young Americans by JCI of Michigan for the impact he made with his previous employee SBA, service with the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), and other work.
Ashwin Reddy (2016) is the Head of Education and Pedagogy for the startup Curious Cardinals.

Curious Cardinals was founded during the pandemic to mitigate the gaps COVID-19 created in education quality and engagement. By offering interactive workshops and one-on-one passion projects, Curious Cardinals connects like-minded students from across the world with college mentors to pursue what sparks their curiosity without the pressure of grades. The startup was recently featured on CNN.

Ashwin trains new teachers in the company’s passion-based learning pedagogy and how to create curriculums that center the voices of marginalized communities.
Juliana Tafur (2003) was selected to join 30 other startup teams for Babson College’s The WIN Lab online venture accelerator program. “I can’t wait to be surrounded by a community of female founders who are building big businesses,” Juliana said.
Andrés Ballesteros (2009) and his partner created postcards to get out the vote!

“My partner and I were talking about how to encourage people to vote, our worries about the state of the post office, and how much we missed our friends and family during the pandemic. So we decided to do something and made our own postcards! The art on the front was commissioned by a former student of mine, and the back features state-specific voting instructions.” he said.
